A better question is, "Why not?" With 2 periods of hands-on learning, working on real-world projects, this isn't school-as-usual. You'll learn to create professional-quality Web sites. Some former students were already making money as freelance web designers and video editors before they graduated. That is a fantastic thing to have on your resume and in your portfolio ... real-world experience counts for a lot!
In a nutshell, there are 4 major areas that you are going to learn:
- Web Design
- Video
- Graphic Design
- Animation
- Internet
You'll compete against students your age in areas like Web site design, digital media production, XHMTL, desktop publishing, and graphic design. Over the past 3 years, students from the Multimedia program have advanced to the National Conference each year to compete, earning for themselves free trips to Cincinnati, Anaheim, and Orlando. This year's competition is in New York City, and we plan to be there in May to compete again.
Oh ... college credit. Students who graduate from the Multimedia program can earn up to 43 college credits. This is a transcript, not an articulation agreement. You can take this transcript to any state school and the credits will be transferred. This is a HUGE benefit to anyone pursuing multimedia-related education after high school.
The career opportunities for workers in this field are very good. Think of all the technology applications that need someone to design the interface ... video games, cell phones, portable devices, DVDs ... the demand is growing for skilled workers who can create easy-to-use, compelling experiences for the users of these items. You'll be laying the groundwork for careers as a:
- Web Designer
- Animator
- Graphic Designer
- Project Manager
- Video Editor
- Multimedia Technician
